Champions
are ordinary people who put in extra effort to produce extraordinary results. Champions
are not made in the public but are only recognized there. The preparation of
champions is in the secret place. Everyone wants to be a champion, many even
profess and confess to be champions but only few are ready to pay the price
require to becoming champions. Just as
human beings are distinctively different from robots, champions are different
from ordinary people in their thinking and doings. Following is three common
traits you will find in every champion!
Ø Champions Develop Their Skills
Do
you want to be a champion? Where and how? There are champions in every sphere
of life. Which is your sphere? Is it music, fashion, politics, sports,
academics etc? For you to win, you must compete in something because without a
battle you cannot get a title. You can start by developing a burning desire for
something that you wish to have in order to reach a greater goal you have set
for yourself. Once you have that burning desire, you will develop an intensity
of purpose that will allow you to simply brush aside obstacles that seem
insurmountable. All things are possible to the person who believes they are
possible. Talent is like crude oil, it needs to be refined for it to be well
accepted. Champions not only discover their skills but also develop them.
Ø Champions Are Focused
If
you want to win and win big, you must set aside all distractions and focus. To
be focus is to pay total dedication and concentration to a course. It has to do
with consistency with what you are doing even when the desired result is not
forth coming. It doesn’t matter what you are doing, keep doing it because
practice breeds perfection. You need to understand
that some side attractions can really become distraction. Don’t move with
the crowd and the reigning trends, just be yourself and your persistence will
break whatever resistance that may want to stop you from being the champion. To
focus and win in your area of interest, you must follow these procedures
carefully:
a.
Set a definite goal in life for yourself.
b.
Write it down
c.
Commit it to memory
d.
Direct every thought and all your energies
to making it come true.
Ø Champions Go The Extra Mile
If
you want to win and be the best, you must go the extra mile. You can’t do what
every other person is doing and expect to stand out! We all know when we have
done just enough and when we have really exerted ourselves. Make a conscious
effort to exert yourself every day. It is amazing how so many young people do
not study at all, let alone study adequately for exams and still hope to come
out in flying colours. The simple truth is that what you take in is what you
can produce. It is said that whatever is what doing is what doing very well.
You cannot do ordinary things and expect extra ordinary result or performance!
It is that little extra effort that makes champions. Martin Luther King once
said “if a man is called to be a street
sweeper, he should sweep street so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth
will pause and say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well”
I
will like to conclude with a quote from Abraham Lincoln which says “whatever you are, be a good one”.
